Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset Trust is a local charity providing high quality community based specialist services for people with cancer and similar life threatening diseases in Dorset. Established in 1984, we are now celebrating our 20 th anniversary year.
Cancer is something we are all aware of, but tend to ignore. However look at the statistics - at least one in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives. The good news is that more people than ever are living with cancer and enjoying long and fulfilling lives.
Every year around 750 new patients will be referred to our specialist nurses and other services. Since 1984 we have helped over 9,000 patients and families. Our nurses' expertise, understanding and advice are very much appreciated by both patients and carers. Help from a large trained volunteer force and support for the bereaved complement the work of our nurses.
It costs £1 million each year to provide the current level of service, 42% is paid by the Dorset and Somerset Health Authority, leaving the charity to raise around £600,000 per annum.
Legacies are our most important source of income and we would encourage everyone who has benefited from our service to leave a bequest to Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset Trust in their will. This is to guarantee that when cancer strikes in future Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset Trust will still be there.
